Abstract

Cigarettes and other tobacco products are subject to a significant number of country-specific regulations regarding their content, conditions of sale, places where they can be consumed, who can smoke them, how they can be advertised or promoted and how they must be packaged. Such policies form the core of successful tobacco control. The methodology in this research paper involves a multi-source desk research approach, drawing on academic literature, government reports and data from international organizations to provide a comprehensive overview of tobacco product regulation and consumption in the Republic of North Macedonia. Key findings reveal that the legal framework for tobacco control in North Macedonia should be further upgraded to align with standards based on the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The high rate of cigarette consumption has shown a slight decline over recent years.
